Sound Therapy & Classes
Some scientific research indicates that relaxing sound (music and nature sound) relaxes the mind and autonomic nervous system is back to the baseline (where people are at the neutral state) and thus many clinical therapies today incorporate relaxing music to enhance the effect of their therapies.
Many observational studies on singing bowl, gong, tingsha and other traditional harmonic instrument show us the effectiveness to increase feelings of relaxation, reducing the feelings of stress and also depression and anxiety. Some studies also have demonstrated that certain physical pains are reduced.
The main theory behind this is that the sound waves created by these instruments and the brain waves create an entrainment effect; stimulation convinces the brain’s activity to synchronize to the external stimulation.
Nepali singing bowl sound therapists who have been in this alternative therapy for generations claim that the vibration of the sound shifts some blockages (physically and energetically) in our body as the majority of our body is made of water that reacts to the sound vibration.
Often the sound session slows down the brain wave from an active mode (Beta) to a meditative mode (Alpha). This is the mode that promotes healing process.
What are the benefits? though everyone experiences differently, many benefits are observed including….
-Reduces stress & increase the sense of relaxation
-Improves the endocrine disorder
-Accelerate the healing process (physically & emotionally) that one is going through
-Encouraging the flow of Qi & releasing the energy no longer serving us
-Decreases blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate
What does a client do during the session?
<Private Session- Singing Bowls & Vocal toning>
The client lies fully clothed on a mat (floor). We place singing bowls around the body (the client lie-down on a mat) and play the bowls. Sometimes we place a bowl on the affected body part and play it. As a sound therapist, we listen to the sound that is played and then decide where to focus as the sound tells us where the blockages are. What I try to achieve in the end of the session is to have a harmonious sound all around the body.
<Group Session- mixture of Singing Bowls, Gong, Vocal toning, flute etc>
A group of people lie fully clothed on a mat (floor) around the instrument/ a sound practitioner. The clients will immerse themselves in the waves of sound to be in a meditative state (alpha state).

Cautions & contradictions for Group Sessions
1) Gong
Benefit: though everyone experiences differently, many benefits are observed including….
- Clarity & balance
- Relaxation & release of tension (body & mind)
- Improved memory & concentration
- Improved sleep
- Heightened awareness, both of the Self & the environment
- Reduces internal “chatter”
- Clear emotional & energetic blockages
- Clear discord & create harmony within our bodies
Why Gong?
- The gong creates big waves of sound that penetrates our bodies and fill up the whole space. Many who have participated the gong sound journey comment that they feel grounded, cleansed and energized at the end.
- It can be a powerful experience for many and yet because of the same reason, although many benefit and enjoy the sound of the gong, some may find it overwhelming
2) Singing Bowls
Benefits: though everyone experiences differently, many benefits are observed including….
- Relaxation & release of tension (body & mind)
- Improved memory & concentration
- Improved sleep
- Improved physical discomfort
- Clear emotional & energetic blockages
- Clear discord & create harmony within our bodies
Why Singing Bowl?
- Singing Bowls' sound vibrations are gentle to our ears and our bodies without being too overwhelmed by the sound effect.
- Because I use the bowls that correspond to our chakra system, they can naturally balance our energetic body. I also follow the Nepalian master Santa's sequence to balance our chakra system.
3) Which one is good for you?
It really depends on your condition and preference. However, if you have any mental condition, singing bowls may be better for you.
If you feel that your energy is stuck or stagnated, the gong session may be effective.
If you feel that you need to have a gentle & calming session, then, the singing bowls sessions may be for you.
The best is to find out for yourself by experiencing both sessions!
